WELCOME TO AFRICA

As the wheels of your plane touch on the runway in Entebbe International Airport, your adventure is about to begin.  Right outside immigration area, your Outskirt Safaris guide and naturalist will greet you and load your bags into a luxury Land Cruiser.  As you drive into central Kampala, your guide will point out the landmarks and share the history of the host country.  On your way, you will have the opportunity to exchange money and shop for necessities in a local market.  Next, check into your luxury hotel and relax after a long journey.

Before dinner, meet your guide in the lobby for a detailed briefing.  After the briefing enjoy the included gourmet dinner in the hotel.

RHINO SANCTUARY & MURCHISON FALLS

After an early breakfast, it’s time to begin your African adventure.  Our first stop is the Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary – a high security reserve where the critically endangered white rhinos roam.  Here, accompanied by the park rangers, you will trek through bush, on foot, to find the rhinos in their natural habitat.  Be sure to follow all instructions, as rhinos can be unpredictable.  Although for many travelers, this experience would be the high point of the trip, for you, it’s just the start of the Ultimate Uganda Tour with Outskirt Safaris!

After your journey with the rhinos, sit back in your Land Cruiser and enjoy the ride to Murchison Falls National Park.  In the afternoon, arrive in the luxury resort on the shore of the Nile River in Murchison Falls National Park.  Enjoy your delicious meal as you watch the sunset over the water!

GAME DRIVE & CRUISE THE NILE

Start your day with a predawn breakfast and the daily briefing. It’s time to explore the Murchison Falls National Park – and enjoy your very first big game drive.  The grazers are munching on the early morning grass and the big cats are quietly stalking the grazers. The earlier you come out, the better the chance of catching a hunt.

After your first game drive, stop for a leisurely lunch in your lodge.  Next, it’s time for an activity of a different kind – a cruise along the Nile River and Murchison Falls.

The Murchison Falls National Park was established to protect the Nile river ecosystem.  The large national park is centered around Murchison Falls.  Here, through an opening of only 7 meters, the waters of the Nile River burst into Lake Albert and create one of the most powerful waterfalls in the world.

As you cruise along the river Nile, you’ll spot predatory water animals such as the hippo and the crocodile.  The views of the falls are stunning from below.  But to truly get a great vantage point, join the optional hike to the top and stand in awe as the water breaks just beneath your feet. In the evening, enjoy the sunset over the Nile and a gourmet meal.

KIBALE NATIONAL PARK

Enjoy a late breakfast today before you set out on the journey to Kibale National Park.  An area of 300 square miles, the protected rainforest here is the home to a wide variety of species.  Most exciting though are the primate communities including the chimps.

On the way to the park you’ll drive through small Ugandan villages and towns.  The typical African road unfolds before you.  You’ll see women walking as they effortlessly balance large loads on their heads.  The children wave enthusiastically at you as you pass.  Your guide will be sharing more information about the history and culture of Uganda.  Today you’ll have an opportunity to stop in a small village and to learn more about how the local people live.

Arrive in the luxurious Kibale lodge in the early afternoon and enjoy a delicious dinner at sunset.  After dinner gather around the campfire with the guides and other travelers. Share a drink and a good story as you finish up day 4 of your tour with Outskirt Safaris.

THE CHIMP TREK

Another exciting adventure awaits you today!  After an early breakfast and briefing, you and a small group will follow an experienced ranger into the bush.  Here, chimps are the king of the forest and you are just the humble visitors in their land.  The chimps are aware of your presence and for their safety as much as yours, it is important to follow all instructions.  The chimps are one of our closest living relatives, of which we share 99% of our DNA.  Observe the families interact for several hours as you enjoy this once in a lifetime experience with the Outskirt Safaris tours.

In the afternoon, feast on a delicious lunch in the lodge and set out for the afternoon's adventure.  The Kibale National Park is home to several large crater lakes. This afternoon, you will have the option to kayak in the crystal-clear water or hike the adjoining trails.  Alternatively, spend some time in the local village and learn more about the Ugandan culture.  At night, enjoy another great dinner and campfire as the sun slowly sets over the horizon.

It's not goodbye....only "See you later!" You will always be welcome back to Uganda-the Pearl of Africa!

CLIMBING LIONS & BWINDI NATIONAL PARK

Day six of the Ultimate Uganda tour starts with a game drive in the Isasha district. This forested part of the Queen Elizabeth National Park is famous for the climbing lion.  Although any big cat can climb a tree, in practice few do.  Cats aren’t known for their work ethic after all.  But the prides of the Ishasha district are the exception.  Look up and you’ll see the king (or the queen) of the jungle lounging on a strong fig or acacia branch, purring, much like a giant house cat.

In the afternoon, arrive in Bwindi National Park.  This unique jungle is often called the impenetrable forest.  The Bwindi is home to a large mountain gorilla population – only a few hundred remain in the wild, and more than a dozen families live here.  Tomorrow, you’ll set out on yet another incredible journey.  Tonight, enjoy a relaxing evening in the luxury lodge.

GORILLA TREKKING

Today’s adventure starts with pre-dawn breakfast and a morning briefing by a park ranger.  Mountain gorillas are critically endangered, and only small, controlled groups are allowed to enter the jungle.   As you make your way through the impenetrable forest, closer to the gorilla habitat, the fog sets in.  The forest has an almost mystical quality here, one of the last few spots on earth completely untouched by man.  Eventually, you find the gorilla families.  Observe them quietly, our living cousins with whom we share 98% of our DNA.  Those who journey with Outskirt Safaris on the Ultimate Uganda tour often describe the time they spend in the jungle at Bwindi National Park as a life-changing experience.

At the end of your trek, make your way back to the lodge.  Spend the afternoon relaxing in the luxurious facility and enjoy a massage included with the tour.

LAKE MBURO NATIONAL PARK

After a late breakfast you set out to the next location – Lake Mburo National Park.  This small national park is well known for low predator population and plenty of grazers.  Because the park is mostly inhabited by prey, this is one place where you can walk among the animals – a rare treat.

After lunch in the luxury lodgings at Lake Mburo set out on a sunset game drive.  Enjoy the endless fields of grazers and stretch your legs with a stroll on the African plains.  As the dusk sets, watch for leopards – they are common here and only come out at night! Finish day 8 with dinner and relaxation at the lodge.

HORSEBACK OR BIKE RIDE AT LAKE MBURO

Today enjoy another rare treat at Lake Mburo.  There are not many places in the world where you can go horseback riding with the zebras – yet you can do so right here, in Lake Mburo.  Because the park is safe to explore by foot, the grazers are used to human presence. Straddle a horse (or hop on a bike) and accompany your guide around the park.  The views are incredible, and you’ll get to enjoy the presence of the animals in a way few others can.

Spend the evening in the luxury lodge, indulge in a delicious dinner and cozy up by the campfire, as the sun sets over the plains.

FINAL BIG 5 VISIT & EXPLORE THE EQUATOR

In the morning, as the plains come alive, set out for a safari drive in Lake Mburo National park.  The animals are waking up from the night’s slumber, ready to graze another day.  At first, you’ll only see a few, a giraffe here and a gazelle there, and then dozens, and eventually so many you lose track.  They appear on the plains as though out of thin air, crystallized by the rising sun.  Take it all in as you begin to drive to your next destination – the equator.

Uganda is a country located on the equator – a land of two hemispheres.  Our next stop is the ultimate “global village” – a town located in both the northern and southern hemisphere.   After you explore the equator, stop by the multitude of shops – this is also a great place to pick up souvenirs.

Arrive in your luxury hotel in the capital of Kampala and enjoy a relaxing dinner as you reminisce on your Ultimate Uganda experience.

DEPART FOR HOME WITH MEMORIES OF UGANDA

It’s time to say goodbye.  Your guide will pick you up at the hotel and take you to the airport, where your journey began.  Yes, the journey started only 11 days ago – but today you might feel like you spent a lifetime here in Africa. In a way you did – after all, what is a better way to measure a lifetime than with unique adventures?  And if leaving is a little hard, just remember – we will always welcome you back in our beautiful homeland – Uganda.
